Type 1 Concrete, commonly referred to as 'MOT type 1' or 'DOT type 1' is a type of crushed aggregate commonly used throughout the construction industry.
How is Type 1 Concrete Made?
Type 1 concrete is considered an aggregate as it is a crushed concrete mix. The mix is made from crushed aggregate, typically recycled as waste material from demolition or construction projects.
Why The Name?
MOT refers to the 'minestry of transport' and DOT refers to the 'department of transport'. The material has adopted these nicknames because it complies with the Department of Transports specifications for highway works.
What is MOT Type 1 Used for?
The most common use for MOT Type 1 is as a sub-base material for highway works. However, it also makes a great sub-base for many other high traffic areas such as public car parks, driveways, public footpaths and walkways and as a base for buildings. MOT Type 1 is an excellent sub-base where any hard standing is required. In order for the sub-base to be classed as type 1, it must comply with these standards.
Is MOT Type 1 Permeable
MOT type 1 is not a permeable material, meaning that it does not easily allow water to pass through. Therefore, it is only suitable for certain applications such as the examples mentioned above.
